A customer who only just recently started frequenting the store has taken a liking to me. I don’t know much about her; only that she is from Chicago and works in Child Protective Services. She is re-decorating her living room beginning with a stuffy, uncomfortable-looking, teal sofa that I pretended to like after she struggled to pull the image up on her phone. She always has two car seats in her car but shops for furniture in between home visits. She told me she’d be fired if she took any house hold items in her car with the kids. She calls me her good luck charm because I convinced her, without much effort, to buy a floor lamp. I said, “or I’m just your enabler.” She told me that’s she’s a positive person and that I shouldn’t spin it like that. Negativity rubs off, she said.
